The School Counseling Center is here to help you!
Students at CHS have an open door policy to meet with a school counselor. Counselors are here to assist students in a confidential setting with academic, college/career, or social/personal concerns. Some common themes discussed are (but not limited to):
College Application Process
Financial Aid
Depression
Suicide (24/7/365 you can always text 741-741 or call 988)
Anxiety
Coping with Life Changes
Academics
Attendance
Group Counseling is available on a voluntary basis as need arise.
Counselors work directly with teachers, administrators and other stakeholders to support and advocate for the needs of our students
Counselors often refer students to outside counseling when situations are beyond our scope of practice. Before doing so, we contact the parent/guardian and make them aware of our observations. On certain occasions outside counselors do visit the school for appointments so families do not have to travel and students miss less class time. These referrals can help students with but not limited to:
overcome behavioral, emotional or social problems that interfere with success at school and at home
reduce disruptive behavior
improve self-monitoring skills
individual and group therapy
family counseling
risk assessments
specialized training and support services for parents and students
collaboration with other community providers
links to additional community resources
Counselors are bound to confidentiality. The only time this will be broken is if any of the following occurs:
A student states they are being harmed
A student states they are going to harm someone
A student states they are going to harm themselves
A student states they are suicidal
